Test Your Sump Pump Before It’s Too Late
Test Your Sump Pump Before It’s Too Late -Dawsonville, GA

Basement flooding is all too common, especially when there is a lot of rain! Sump pumps and backup systems can effectively protect your house from flooding. If you have a sump pump and backup device as your first line of defense, you should check that they are functioning properly before it is too late.
CHECKING YOUR SUMP PUMP
You can check your sump pump's functionality by following these steps:
- You need to find the pipe outside the pump that collects water. Check to see if there is any dirt or debris clogging the pipe.
- Collect water in a 5-gallon bucket or large cooking pot. As you pour water into the sump pit, keep an eye on the water level.
- The float in the pit should rise, and the pump should start before the water reaches the top. Once the pit has been emptied, the system should be turned off.
- It should be inspected further if the float does not rise or if the pump does not automatically turn on/off.
- It may seem unnecessary, but make sure the pump's outlet works. It is not uncommon for electrical outlets to trip when basements are damp.
- We recommend repeating this process twice to three times a year!
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE POWER GOES OUT?
You should also know that sump pumps require electricity to run. The pump will not function in the event of a power failure, so consider installing a battery backup system. A fully charged backup system will switch on as soon as there is a power outage. Adding a battery-powered backup system is like adding extra coverage to your system. It is a good idea to have a backup plan in case of power outages. Water backup systems are also available.
INSTALL A SUMP PUMP IN YOUR HOME
When you do not have a sump pump and have to mop up water in your basement, prop up your belongings to keep them dry, or deal with the issues with mold and excessive moisture, it's time to install one.
